My daughter had some favorite books and some free wall space so I decided to hack up a little Kid’s Reading Nook for her. I got 3 BEKVÄM spice racks last time I was at IKEA which I used for shelves. They’re wood and super simple, and $3.99 each!
Supplies You’ll Need:
- BEKVÄM spice racks from IKEA, $3.99 ea.
- Craft paint
- Paint brush / sponge
- Mod Podge (optional)
- Card stock (optional)
Kid’s Reading Shelves Directions:
If you want all of your pieces to be different colors then paint them before you assemble them. If not then you can go ahead and assemble before painting if you want.
I made my pieces different colors so I painted first. I had to paint each piece 2-3 times depending on the paint and color. Once I liked the look and it was all dry I assembled my racks.
On one rack I used card stock, cut out “Story Time” and Mod Podged it to the bottom of the rack. I actually did this prior to assembly. I later realized my fun idea was not fully thought through since book will always be sitting on the cute letters but oh well… it was still fun doing it.
My daughter loves her reading shelves. She can easily get her favorite books, even at less than 3 feet tall.
